Our founder, Donna Stuart, established the College Park Tumbleweeds Gymnastics program in 1972. Donna Stuart worked tirelessly to create a program that fulfilled her vision of promoting competitive excellence in young girls through the sport of gymnastics. Although the program has significantly expanded over its 45 years of establishment, the program remains grounded in Donna Stuart’s mission. The Tumbleweeds program serves young female athletes beginning at the age of 6 by creating a positive and safe environment for them to thrive. Our program is designed to provide gymnasts with opportunities to develop their gymnastics skills and knowledge in order to prepare them for success at the competitive level. In addition, the program seeks to produce young women that are confident, strong, and capable of success in all facets of life.
Our Gymnastics Coordinator, Michelle Johnson, directs the developmental program. Michelle was a competitive gymnast under Donna Stuart and competed at the University of Alabama. Michelle Johnson brings over 20 years of experience and expertise to our growing program. Our developmental classes train gymnasts to progress from the Novice, Bronze, and Silver classes to the competitive team. Our competitive team program includes AAU and USAG levels producing state, regional, and national champions. By providing our gymnasts with strong fundamentals, we are able to produce gymnasts that achieve greatness. We also offer private lessons with coaches in order to target specific skill progressions or receive more individualized coaching.
In addition to our Tumbleweeds developmental classes and competitive team, KiDsGyM USA is a contracted early education gymnastics program serving boys and girls ages 12 months to 6 years old and boys 7 & up. We have been partnering with this program led by Tracy and Stephanie Campbell for over 30 years. KiDsGyM USA seeks to develop motor skills and introduce basic gymnastics skills to young children. Once children reach the appropriate age and/or skill level based on an evaluation and recommendation, they will transition to the Tumbleweed developmental classes. As a program, we value each individual and seek to help them reach their full potential as gymnasts and young women.
